Just moved in?

Start protecting your deposit from day one

A few minutes now could save you hundreds of euros later. Be proactive, stay protected.

You’ve just moved in, the keys are in your hand, and the place looks pretty good. But don’t get too comfortable just yet ,your deposit depends on what you do in the first 24 hours.

  • Start by documenting everything
Take clear pictures or a quick video walkthrough. Get the walls, ceilings, floors, appliances, and don’t skip the small stuff: chipped tiles, scratches, loose knobs. If it’s not documented, it can be blamed on you later.

  • Check for an inventory list
If your property owner didn’t give you one, make your own and ask them to sign it. No need to be a lawyer - just write what’s there and what condition it’s in.

Then, take a proper look at your rental contract. What counts as normal wear and tear? What repairs are your responsibility? If something looks off, rent.ai can help you review the contract and spot red flags.

The goal: no surprises at move-out time.

Moving out? Here’s how to get your deposit back

  • Start with a proper clean
Property owners love to deduct money for dust and grime. Focus on the kitchen, bathroom, windows, and all those easy-to-ignore spots. rent.ai has a checklist to make sure you don’t miss anything

  • Fix the little things
That hole from a nail? Patch it. Loose cabinet handle? Tighten it. If something was already broken and you documented it when you moved in - great. If not, fix it now to avoid the argument.

You’ve paid a deposit to protect the property, now make sure you get it back.

Moving out? Time to clean up and cover your tracks. Your deposit return depends on it.

Then, do one last walkthrough and take pictures. Treat it like your first day all over again. With rent.ai, your images are time-stamped and securely saved - so there’s no debate later about what was your fault and what wasn’t.

You took care of the place. Make sure your deposit comes back home with you.
